IUHC Awarded 3-year Accreditation Term by AAAHC

Indiana University Health Center has achieved re- accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), according to Dr. Hugh Jessop, Executive Director of the Health Center.  The accreditation term is for three (3) years, the maximum level offered by AAAHC.  The IU Health Center is one of 3,000 ambulatory health care facilities accredited by AAAHC.

To achieve this status, the IU Health Center was found compliant with the Association’s rigorous set of 588 nationally-recognized standards for the provision of quality health care and services.   “Accreditation underscores our long-standing and daily commitment to provide the best possible health care to the students of Indiana University,” said Dr. Jessop.  “We are please and proud to have the efforts of our outstanding staff recognized with this accreditation.”

Ambulatory health care organizations, such as the IU Health Center, seeking accreditation by the AAAHC undergo an extensive on-site, peer-based survey of its facilities and services.  Not all ambulatory health care organizations are required to seek accreditation, but accreditation status provides an objective, third party assessment of quality of care and services.  The IU Health Center believes this assessment is a critical component toward ensuring that the health care provided to the IU student population meets and exceeds the highest standards.

Upon notifying the IU Health Center of its accreditation status, Roy Grekin, MD, the AAAHC President, commented, “Achieving accreditation demands a high level of dedication and effort.  The IU Health Center is to be commended for this accomplishment.”

Among other types of ambulatory health care organizations that can seek AAAHC accreditation are ambulatory and office-based surgery centers, single and multi-specialty group practices, college health centers, dental group practices, community health centers, occupational health centers and managed care organizations.  To learn more about AAAHC, visit their website at www.aaahc.org.
