Our Medical Staff
Appointments topAppointment services encompass the full range of family practice medical care including well physical examinations. Appointments may be scheduled up to two weeks in advance and are usually available in 2 to 3 days. The number to call to make or cancel an appointment is (812) 855-7688 and make a selection from the recorded menu.
Students are asked to cancel their appointments at least 2 hours in advance if they decide not to come. Individuals who fail to cancel appointments will be charged a fee. Individuals with extended appointments will be charged at a higher rate for missed appointments. The intent of the no show fee is to ensure access to students who need care. This policy is explained when the appointment is made and the charge cannot be waived except for emergencies.
After Hours Call Service top(Fall & Spring Semesters ONLY).
During specific times that the Health Center is closed, an after hours call service is provided for the students. The After Hours Call Service phone number is (812) 330-3790. This phone number and instructions are also provided on the Health Center's information line (812) 855-4011 and appointment line (812) 855-7688. This service is available during major semesters between 5 pm and 11 pm on weekdays and from 8am to 11pm on weekends.
The answering service will contact the IUHC provider on call who will call back directly to the student. Students need to remember to be at the number they provided and to stay off the phone until they are called back. The After Hours Call Service is staffed by Health Center medical providers and is intended for students who have an urgent question concerning a medical condition. There is no charge to the student to use this service.
The goal is to assist students to determine if their problem can wait for the Health Center's open hours, if self care is appropriate or if private care is needed when the Health Center is closed. Another goal is to prevent unnecessary and expensive trips to the emergency room and to reduce the anxiety a patient may have regarding any specific complaint or health care problem.
Walk In Clinic topThe Walk In Clinic is available for students who have urgent medical needs. No appointment is necessary and students are seen in the order of arrival or severity of the problem. To be seen in Walk In Clinic, come to Room 216 during Health Center hours and talk with the Screening Nurse. This RN begins care with nursing triage or directs students to the Registration and waiting areas, or assists them to Acute Care.
Typical needs for the Walk In Clinic include fevers, sore throats, coughs, ear pain, injuries such as sprains and strains, asthma flares, eye infections or injuries, urinary tract infections and skin infections or rashes.
The staff understands that students have busy schedules, so we strive to provide efficient, high quality care in a timely fashion. However, we do get busy at times. During peak times of the day and during flu season, the wait times may approach an hour or more.
Acute Care topThe Acute Care area of Walk In Clinic is for immediate health care for those too ill or too injured to wait in the waiting rooms. Typical needs for Acute Care include severe pain, chest pain, asthma attacks, allergic reactions, severe gastrointestinal illness, appendicitis, cuts and broken bones.
If a problem or condition requires additional treatment beyond the normal scope of care provided by the Health Center, we work closely with Bloomington community specialists, Bloomington Hospital
www.bhhs.org and the Bloomington Hospital Ambulance Service which is staffed by certified Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. One of their ambulance stations is immediately adjacent to the IU campus.
Language Line topLanguage Line is another service available at the IU Health Center. This is a bonded subscription service for telephone translators to assist providers during a visit to the Health Center. There is no charge to the patient.
