CAPS Virtual Visits

Requirements

Here’s all that’s required for a virtual visit:

  • You need to be physically located in Indiana or Illinois during your appointment. If you are not in one of these states, CAPS has partnered with The Shrink Space, an online referral database, to help you find a provider in your community.
  • You need to have access to audio/video technology (a phone, tablet, or computer).
  • You need to have access to a confidential space for your sessions. If you need a private, confidential space to go, CAPS has confidential rooms available to reserve. Learn more below.

Please help keep our IUB community healthy.

If you have any COVID-19 symptoms or suspect that you may have been in contact with a person who has contracted the virus, please do not use these spaces and call the Student Health Center medical clinic (812-855-7688).

These confidential spaces are located on the 4th floor of the Student Health Center (10th and Jordan, across from the Wells Library). Please enter using the non-sick entrances Door #2 (loading dock on East side of building) or Door #3 (front entrance on 10th Street).

When you arrive at the Student Health Center you will be:

  • screened for symptoms of COVID-19 and have your temperature taken
  • asked to change into a provided surgical mask that you will wear while in the building
  • asked to use hand sanitizer
  • directed to use an elevator that takes you directly to the fourth floor

The confidential spaces will only be available Mondays and Thursdays by appointment. Call 812-855-5711 to reserve.

  • Counseling Sessions
  • Psychiatry Appointments
  • Support Group meetings

You will need to bring your own device to use while in the confidential space. Wi-Fi can be accessed through IU Secure and eduroam.

In order to help us keep the rooms clean for all students who need them, we have a few recommendations/guidelines:

  • This space is only for your CAPS virutal visit appointment.
  • You cannot eat or smoke in this space.
  • Please arrive five minutes before the time of the appointment. When you arrive, please check-in at the front desk. After your appointment is over, please leave the building immediately to help keep the number of people on the 4th floor to the minimum.
  • You will be required to wear a IU Student Health Center issued surgical mask at all times while in the building, except when you are in a room during your virtual counseling session.

Does this really work?

Online therapy services continue to be a growing trend. According to recent research, it’s just as effective for most issues and is a fine alternative to meeting with a counselor face-to-face.
