Embedded counselors are CAPS counselors who provide in-person counseling services in academic buildings and student life spaces across campus, outside of the Student Health Center. They are available at their embedded locations during designated hours each week, bringing CAPS support closer to the communities they serve.
Services with embedded counselors, like those at CAPS, are available at no additional cost to students who have paid the Student Health Fee. Students who have not paid the Student Health Fee will be charged for counseling services. If a student is referred to psychiatry, those services will take place at the Student Health Center, and applicable psychiatry fees will apply.
Embedded counselors provide many of the same services available through CAPS at the Student Health Center, including:
- Short-term individual counseling
- Workshops
- Skills groups
Embedded counselors do not provide emergency services or crisis drop-ins. Depending on your needs, your counselor may recommend meeting with a therapist at the Student Health Center or participating in a three-week group, support group, or interpersonal process group. While some groups are offered at embedded sites, talk with your embedded counselor about the location of your group therapy appointments. You can always start by connecting with an embedded counselor, who can help determine what type of support is right for you.
