AIDS Memorial Quilt

The AIDS Memorial Quilt at IU

Sections of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, a 54-ton tapestry, are coming to Indiana University Bloomington. There will be 30 sections selected to be displayed at the Indiana Memorial Union, the Student Health Center, and the Monroe County Public Library.

You will have the opportunity to tour sections of the Quilt, which have been selected by members of the public who have been impacted by AIDS. Each day of the event, campus and community prevention teams will be present for you to ask questions and learn about HIV/AIDS, prevention best practices, and receive free HIV testing. As you tour the Quilt, take a walk through history to learn about the AIDS crisis from a local and national perspective. Importantly, there will be space to spend time with the Quilt, and the people it embodies, in this somber gathering of remembrance.

Yes, and most of the other events associated with the display are too!

Volunteers are the heart of the AIDS Quilt display. We need your help to ensure the events run smoothly so that all participants enjoy their time. As a volunteer, you have the chance to set up the AIDS Quilt panels, staff the welcome and information tables, be a room monitor, honor those we have lost to AIDS through reciting their names, and many other tasks. Volunteering is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.

If you would like to volunteer, please complete the volunteer sign-up form by Friday, October 28th, 2022. For questions, please email well@iu.edu.
