Physical Therapy consists of the evaluation of musculoskeletal conditions with the goals of pain relief, restoration of function, and return to your fullest level of activity in school, work, recreation and sports.
The initial Evaluation includes a history of your injury and how it affects your daily activities. A physical examination will be completed to determine the problems that need addressed and an individual plan of care will be established.
Treatment may include:
- Functional Dry Needling
- Hot Packs/Cold Packs
- Manual Therapy (including Graston technique)
- Electrical Stimulation
- Supervised exercises in the clinic
- Instruction in Home Exercise Program
- Education about ergonomics of work, study and music performance that may help avoid repetitive stress injuries
- Education on your condition and self-management techniques
The IU Health Center requires a prescription to begin therapy. We accept orders from physicians, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, chiropractors, or dentists. Orders are valid for up to 60 days of date they were written.
Physical therapy services are available by appointment with a written prescription required. Our services are open to IU Bloomington students, faculty, and staff. There will be a charge for each visit based on services rendered. Students who have paid the Health Center fee will be treated at a reduced cost. Charges incurred can be paid in full at the time of checkout or applied to your bursar account. The Health Center will submit claims to Aetna Student Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. It is the responsibility of the patient to research their insurance plan’s coverage and pre-authorization requirements. Contact your insurance carrier to see if Indiana University Health Center is in-network with your plan and/or if you are eligible for reimbursement by submitting a copy of your itemized receipt. Receipts are available at checkout from the cashier.
