Relax and unwind

NOTICE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Student Health Center is not currently offering massage services. We will continue to provide updates as they become available regarding returning to normal operations.

Are your shoulders a little tight? Been sitting too long? Is studying for that exam a literal pain in the neck? Sounds like it’s time to schedule a therapeutic Swedish massage with the Student Health Center’s certified massage therapist!

Swedish massage combines circular pressure, firm kneading, and rubbing of your muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of returning blood to the heart. It relaxes your body, increases oxygen levels in your blood, decreases muscle toxins, and improves circulation and flexibility, all while easing tension. Swedish massage has also been known to help ease anxiety, depression, and excessive stress levels.

What to expect at your first massage

The massage therapist will talk with you to learn about any injuries or ailments you may be experiencing. They’ll also discuss your reasons for visiting and ask if you have any areas you’d like them to focus on. You’ll have a chance to ask questions about your massage.

You’ll be taken to a private, quiet room. Your massage therapist will ask you to undress to your comfort level and will leave the room to give you time to do so. Once you’ve undressed, you’ll lie down on the table and cover yourself with the top sheet.

During your massage, your massage therapist will uncover only the area they’re working on at the time. Be sure to communicate with your massage therapist—tell them if they use too much (or too little) pressure; if you’re too chilly (or too warm); if you prefer to chat (or stay quiet). Your massage is all about helping you relax, so make sure you get the most out of it!
